Alain & Lucy - A Life of Travel on Two Wheels

Alain and Lucy have been riding Helix bikes since 2021. Alain is the former president of a well-known graphic design company, and Lucy spent her career in travel and tourism.
During the pandemic, Alain and Lucy visited the Helix factory and took a leap of faith on their first folding bikes after doing extensive research. Five years later, they have travelled to eight countries with their bikes, with trips lasting three to four weeks at a time and thousands of kilometres ridden along the way.

Their travels follow a beautifully simple formula: land in an exciting new country, check their Helix travel cases into a hotel, and begin a lightweight touring journey by bike. With a minimal setup, they ride through some of the most beautiful scenery each country has to offer, often completing a loop that brings them back to their starting point before repacking and returning home.

Their fitness level is remarkable. Alain and Lucy regularly cover 80 to 100 kilometres per day across all types of terrain. They are not just sightseeing from place to place. They are experiencing the country in the way only a bicycle allows — moving at ground level, stopping easily, and seeing the details that would otherwise be missed.

Over the years, Alain has also been a thoughtful and valuable source of feedback for the Helix team. His touring experience has helped inform suggestions for rack design, including pannier compatibility, heel clearance, durability, and overall function across different modes of transportation — from car to bus, train, and plane.

On their travels, Alain and Lucy are often approached by fellow cycle tourers who are curious about their highly unique and practical setup. Their Helix bikes give them the rare combination of full-size wheels, a proper drivetrain, a rigid titanium frame, and compact folding capability — making lightweight international touring not only possible, but a joy.

Today, Alain and Lucy have sold their vehicles and commute almost exclusively by bike, using their Helix bikes along with cargo bikes for day-to-day utility. Cycling is not just a hobby for them. It is an integral part of a beautiful, active, and holistic lifestyle.
